Point and Shoot

What's the deal with wedding registries? Lowell and I went out to the stores to do our gift registries this weekend. We spent all day, pointing the little price guns at various items at Younkers, Target and Sears, amassing quite a selection of fine gifts for our friends and family to purchase, should they desire. Later that day, at his parent's house, his mother asked what we "really wanted". This seems to be a common theme. Everyone insists that you register, but then they don't seem to want to look at the registry; they just want you to tell them what to get you. ??? My mom has done this already, a couple of belly dance friends have too... Anyway, I suggested a digital camera, because that is what I really want - my current camera is old and this seems like a great time to upgrade. I know that this is not what Lowell wants the most, but he let me have my way and his mother agreed to refund us the purchase price if we went out and bought it ourselves. We registered for one at Target, but found a better deal at Best Buy and an even better price at Amazon. My (excuse me, our) new camera should arrive in 3-7 business days. :) A happy and higher-megapixelled little goddess awaits...

Ouch, my fascia!!!

I made it through my very first 10K this weekend and my time wasn't too shabby either, if I do say so.  Lowell and I ran in the Bellevue Barnburner, which would have been better named "The Longest Uphill Run We've Ever Done".  It was brutal - we ran up hills just to get to steeper hills, and when we got to the top of the sharpest incline, we turned a corner to find...more hills!  But we finished, collected our t-shirts and doughnuts and went home.  I spend the rest of the afternoon shopping with my mother and noticing a steadily growing pain in my heels.  I had developed a case of Plantar Fasciitis, a not-so-fun inflammation of the tissue connecting my heel bones to my toes.  By the time the evening rolled around, I could barely walk.  Fortunately, most of the pain subsided enough that I could run in my second race of the weekend, the Sundae Sunday 5K.  It hurt, but the thought of the ice cream waiting at the finish line got me through.  Today, however, I am taking the day off!  We are getting our engagement pictures taken tonight, and for that I need to be a happy and well-rested little goddess...

Licensed to Wed

So Lowell and I went to the County Clerk's office yesterday afternoon and filed an application for our marriage license.  We're one step closer.  It's becoming very surreal.  I had my first wedding dress fitting Tuesday - it's waaaayyy too long, and I also got hustled into the bustle - what a rip-off!  Of course, I didn't even know what a "bustle" is, so how was I supposed to defend myself?  Oh, well.

The guest list is growing by the minute - I keep running into people who just assume that they are invited.  How do you tell someone who gushes about how much they are looking forward to the wedding that I didn't plan on inviting them?  You don't.  You just send them an invitation and pray that half of the people don't want to drive this far!

At least we're starting on the fun stuff - registering for gifts! J  Shopping makes this little goddess very happy!

So Much To Do

The purpose of the weekend is to relax and unwind from the week before and to rest up for the week to come, but it seems my weekends are usually more exhausting than my weekdays!  Just this weekend I: took care of two Mother's Day gifts (cards and gift certificates for pedicures), 3 graduation gifts (cards and cash), and an anniversary card; bought supplies for Save the Date cards for the wedding, ribbons and other decorations for the cake, and groceries; dug up sod along the side of the house to put down mulch and plant hosta; repaired a blanket I tore a hole in while laundering; washed, dried and folded 5 loads of laundry; printed, cut, addressed and stamped 60 Save the Date cards; printed and cut 400 coupons to be distributed at the neighborhood picnic; attended a graduation and graduation reception; cleaned the house (clutter, dust and vacuum), designed a monogram for the wedding invitations; played volleyball; visited with friends and family; and...well that might have been it, other than sleeping, eating, some tv time and playing with the canine.  A busy little goddess weekend...
