That girl's a runnin' fool

Yesterday was the first race of the 2007 Omaha Running Club season, the "Chiller Challenge". It's an 8K run around the NP Dodge Park in North Omaha. I would have to say that "chiller" and "challege" are both understatements! It was about 10 degrees outside, and this was in the afternoon! I finished in under 45 minutes - not a personal best, but considering the sheer amount of clothing I had on, I think it was a good time!
After the race, the t-shirts for last year's Run the Magnet challenge were handed out. "Running the magnet" involved completing 8 of the 14 qualifying races (listed on a fridge magnet) - I did 9 of them. The winners were announced at November's Annual Meeting and the group photo is here. This challenge was one of my New Year's Resolutions for 2006, so it felt like quite an accomplishment to be able to check that goal off my list. As for the 2007 challenge, one race down, 7 to go!

that's love, I guess

There was a story in the news today about a woman who induced labor on Friday because she was due on Monday, and was afraid that her Chicago Bear-fanatic husband would have to miss the NFC Championship game on Sunday if she waited.  I don’t have strong feelings either way about this; I just kind of thought it was funny.  I forwarded the story onto my bestest-bud and my husband…and got extremely different responses:

Friend:  “Ugh, that’s disgusting.  I hope she enjoys the barefoot, pregnant, cooking dinner in the kitchen life.  Dumb B!tch!”

Husband: “It has been 21 years since the Bears have been to the Superbowl, and in this day and age where you can "schedule" a delivery, why not?”

I guess my first question would be:  did the woman do it because she really loves her husband and respects his passions for da Bears, or was she just afraid that he wouldn’t show up if she went into labor during the game?

Looking so good hurts SO bad!

Ouch!  It hurts to breathe right now!  I went to a dance workshop in Kearney over the weekend – a Rajasthani Gypsy Sepera workshop.  It was awesome, but apparently we worked muscles that are not in regular use – particularly our obliques.  I feel like I was in a street fight or something!

I’ve notice, though, that I’m always in a little pain, and have been constantly since I started a regular workout schedule over the past year.  You would think that eventually your body would adapt and nothing would phase you, but it’s not the case.  Sure, things like running a few miles don’t wind you like they used to and you’re able to walk the next day, but I still get sore from certain crunches, chest flies, any repetitive movement that isn’t done daily.  Although I’ve lost weight and generally feel better, the constant aches and stiffness make me wonder if the pain is really worth the gain.  Should looking good feel bad?

Resolution Progress or Lack Thereof

Yeah, so I’m not doing all that well on the New Year’s Resolutions, but we’re only 11 days into the year, right? How am I doing? Let’s see:

1) Dance every day – it’s been about every other day, but Sunday rehearsals have recommenced this week, as well as Wednesday night classes, plus I signed up for an 6 week tribal basics class on Thursdays, so even if I slack at home, there is 3 days a week I’ll be dancing.

2) Do what feels good – I have NOT been following this. I’ve been eating junk all week – poptarts, cookies, candy bars, etc. Even a couple of full-calorie pops. Uck. No wonder I DON”T feel good! I should know better – I feel awesome after a big glass of water and some healthy veggies, but like a rock (a fat, squishy rock) after the cookies – so what’s wrong with me???

3) Show the love – I’ve been trying to do this with the friends, but have struggled with the hubbie – I’ll blame it on the “week before” this week, but I feel like I’m nitpicking him more than usual (although it could be that he’s being more annoying than usual!!)

4) Doing pretty well on this one – have pretty much only done belly dance and Lowell’s band-related things so far this year – all of my other activities have revolved around being at home – making sushi, cross-stitching naughty phrases, surfing the web, etc.

5) Relax – as mentioned above – I’ve started a couple of for-me hobbies – cross-stitching (made my expecting sister a bib that says “Babies Suck.”), making sushi, etc; plus I have beautifully painted toenails… J

So not a great start, but not bad…I’ll get there – it’s only January!
