Shimmied out
Overall, I'd have to say this weekend was quite a success. In addition to the media attention, the shows were fantastic - our Saturday night show was sold out, and the Friday night was nearly so. Not quite full on Saturday afternoon, but it was Saturday afternoon, after all... The donation boxes were crammed full of items for the troop care packages and the audience was very receptive and participatory. Even Lowell's parents made it out for one of the shows, which made me almost more nervous than the prime time shows... :) But I think overall, my solos were decent. Everyone looked beautiful of course... I love my diva sisters. :)
After everything was cleaned up last night, we met up at The Spotlight for the SC69 show. My parents came for a while, although it was too smoky them, so they retired to our house after not-so-long. The guys were really on - it was their best performance to date.
Oh, so tired...tired, but happy...

Happy Thanksgiving...Err, um, Valentine's Day!
My poor husband, I give him such a hard time… he’s been calling every holiday “Thanksgiving” and I always feel compelled to point these incidents out and laugh at him. J But at least he has a sense of humor, because along with the biggest heart-shaped box of chocolates I’ve ever seen and a dozen beautiful red roses, he wrote “Happy Thanksgiving” on my Valentine’s Day card. J
I suppose we should both be very thankful – we just passed the 6 month point in our new marriage and everything is going well. We had a great “date” last night – you still call them dates after you’re married, right? – went to a wonderful restaurant, ate delicious food, and had pleasant conversation and great laughs. I can’t imagine being happier.
This morning on my way to work, I dropped his gift off for him to find when he gets to work. He insisted “no flowers”, ‘cause that’s not something that guys like, or so he says. So I made him a special “bouquet” of silk flowers (which I actually bought for a craft project), drum sticks (for his drums – not chicken legs!), beef jerky and other low-carb treats, a couple of drumming magazines, a dvd, and gift cards to iTunes and Starbucks. I was pretty impressed with myself – I hope he is too!
This February 14th, I am a very happy, and thankful, little goddess….

Great Expectations...
The wait is almost over…the due date is almost here! Lowell and I will be the proud parents of…a custom Drum Workshop drum kit. Any day now, the drum stork will arrive and we will be greeted by a little bundle of custom-built drum joy. We’re going to name it Steve, after my dad.
Oh, and also my sister is due in about 8 weeks with a little boy. That’s exciting too. J She seems more upset about her lack of ankles than anything else, though. Her descriptions of pregnancy have pretty much drained any desire in me to ever have my own children.

Compact Fluorescent Happiness
One of my goals this year around our house is to replace all the incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient CFLs. So far, I’ve bought 16 bulbs and have swapped bulbs in the dining room, master bedroom, guest bedroom and 2 of my 3 lamps. I still have a couple of bulbs left over, but, as the old bulbs get rather hot, this task seems best suited to daylight when the lights have been off in the desired room for quite a while…not the case in my office last night and I have a slight burn on a finger to prove it! Oops.
A couple of snags in my plan: I haven’t figured out what to do with the light fixtures that hold non-standard sized bulbs – do they make CFLs for the fancy bathroom vanity fixtures? How about the tiny pointy bulbs for chandeliers? This project will definitely require more research… Another thing I noticed is that it will take some time to adjust to the delay between flipping the switch and the light actually coming on – there is a definitely pause as the chemical reaction occurs and becomes light. I’m used to walking into a room, flipping the switch and being able to see. Now, I walk into my bedroom, flip the switch…and pause until I can see so I don’t stub my toe! Oh, well…patience is a virtue and we could all use more of it…a happy goddess is a patient, stubbed-toe-free goddess…
