The FDA is advising consumers to avoid Roma and red round tomatoes because of a recent string of salmonella outbreaks.  Ew.  I have a pile of Romas in the fruit bowl on our kitchen counter.  Am I worried?  Nope.  My Romas were grown locally and bought on-the-vine.  True, it’s a little early for tomatoes in Nebraska – these were greenhouse-grown – but they are darn good… J  They taste even better with the knowledge that I am supporting a local grower and avoiding a serious illness.
